Century aluminium has announced it is restarted construction at Helguvik. This will add an additional 110,000tpy of aluminium to the European market and put pressure on the older, higher cost smelters in the region. Elsewhere, Nalco is to build two new smelters in Indonesia. Given the market, and the fact that one of the smelters is of a n 'undisclosed' capacity, MBR will wait for firmer indication before adding this capacity to our base supply model. Also, four new Indian smelters with firmer possibilities of consructiion will lead to a market oversupply in 2012, unless they are delayed.
