Essential tremor (ET) is one of the most common movement disorders and is characterized by kinetic limb tremors. Evidence points to a link between ET and Parkinson's disease (PD) as a subset of ET patients eventually develop PD. The clinical phenomenology of ET patients who eventually develop PD compared with those with ET alone is not well defined. To determine whether ET patients who develop PD have distinctly different clinical motor symptoms compared with patients who have ET alone, Simoes and colleagues performed a retrospective chart review of 18 ET patients who developed PD, 20 patients with ET and 30 patients with PD.
