摘要

The intestinal parasitic infections are caused by protozoa and helminths that live in the intestine and they feed and infringe damage on their hosts. These are acquired by consuming contaminated food or water. The presence of the parasites in a community is closely related to deficient sanitary and socio-cultural conditions, overcrowding, and presence of vectors, among others. The parasites, despite of having a low mortality, can cause health problems and deterioration of health, which affect mostly to children. These infections have high prevalence rates, especially in tropical regions, and specifically in countries where prevails rural and urban areas which are social and economically depressed. The research was carried out under a cross-sectional design, to characterize epidemiologically the intestinal parasitic infections in the community of Rio Blanco I South area. 317 stools samples were gathered, without sex or age distinction, between September and October, 2014, and were analyzed through the conventional techniques (saline solution and Lugol, Kato, Faust and Baermann). The results were processed by the EPINFO statistical package 3.5.4 version. A global prevalence of 50.16 parasitized with predominance on the female gender (58.99) was obtained. There was a predominance of protozoa (98.7) over helminths (1.9). In the distribution by species, Blastocystis spp. was the most common protozoa (84.3) and the most common helminth was Hymenolepis diminuta (1.3). The 86.8 of the population was monoparasitized. The highest prevalence by age was observed in the group of 0 to 9 years old (22.6) followed by the group of 20 to 29 years (15.1). The socioeconomic status, evaluated after the Graffar scale (modified by Mendez-Castellano), placing the community in stratum IV (relative poverty) (70.1). High ignorance on intestinal parasitic infections was observed on the parents according to the survey applied (71.5).
