Last night I harvested a salad from the plastic bucket on my doorstep. It was a beautiful thing - the idea of seedling to salad bowl within a month, I mean. The bucket's not; it's a bog standard no-frills green cheapie. But the glow of achievement remains: 30 buttercrunch leaves dressed with a squeeze of lemon, a slosh of olive oil and some pepper. Bliss from a bucket. But that's nothing compared to what our editorial assistant Rachel Oldham grows. Her pots put our plots to shame. "I've always growncrops in pots," she says. "Mainly because I'm renting."
