I am writing this having just attended the National Beekeepers Association (NBA) conference in Rotorua. A pleasing aspect was the interest by the beekeepers in becoming better informed about chemicals and their modes of action, with an effort to attain a balanced well grounded group of speakers. The amounts of miss information pertaining chemicals that have spread through the beekeeping circles have been a factor in tension between the two industries. For instance, when a beekeeper contacted me and thought his life was doomed because of an exposure to a chemical being applied during mid flowering (a non toxic)! If you are laughing, this mis-information goes both ways an orchardist once told me how easy beekeeping is, you just put boxes out in the field and bees fly in.
