IT'S A STUDY IN CON-trasts. In recent years the pages of this magazine have showcased the advances in drilling technologies that have helped produce ever more oil to feed growing world demand. But there has been no comparable parade of new technologies for service rigs."Everyone's likely familiar with the advancements in drilling from the '80s right through to today," says Jeff Aitchison, vice-president of business development at Calgary-based Advanced Measurements Inc. "And largely as a result of measuring, monitoring and automation, drilling today is faster and it's more accurate. It's safer and it's lower cost than it was way back then."
