Since horizontal wells have become the norm in western Canada's oil and gas sector, directional drillers have risen to the challenge. As well costs have steadily risen, cost-control efforts have followed, and now more than ever, mere's ample reason to drill wells efficiently. A critical part of directional drilling is getting data from bottomhole to surface, a task mat's handled differendy by different companies. Until now, two technologies, mud pulse and electromagnetic (EM) telemetry, have been the mainstay of data transmission, covering most of the market in directional drilling.
