Inhibition of copper aqueous corrosion by sodium linear saturated carboxylates. I. Inhibitor ability of linear carboxylates of formula CH_3(CH_2)_(n-2)COONa
The behaviour of a few sodium saturated linear carboxylates with respect to the inhibition of the aqueous corrosion of copper was monitored using electro-chemistry. This study has shown that the compounds studied were inhibitors whose efficiency is a function of the length of their chain and their concentration. The optimal inhibition is observed starting from a critical concentration. A very special study was devoted to sodium heplanoate. The optimal using conditions of this inhibitor were specified and the inhibition could be attributed to the formation of a barrier layer The accelerator effect of a strong oxidizer such as sodium perborate was also examined.
