Cardiac dysfunction in chronic kidney disease(CKD) patients is complex and multifactorial. Apart from the traditional risk factors, other factors like vascular calcification, uremic toxins, anaemia, volume overload state, presence of vascular access and inflammation lead to the progression of cardiovascular disease. A successful kidney transplant is known to reverse cardiac remodelling. 2D Echocardiography is a non-invasive tool routinely used at the bedside to evaluate cardiac structure and function. NT pro-BNP is a well-validated biomarker of cardiac dysfunction both for diagnosis and to evaluate the effects of the therapy. The current study aims to evaluate effects of kidney transplant on cardiac structure and function by performing 2D Echocardiography and measuring serum NT pro-BNP in post-kidney transplant.
