The Sollac Dunkerque steel shop has commissioned a new 380-t ladle crane in September1995. For drives, simple AC motors with vector control have been preferred. This solution allows the torque control as precisely as DC motors would permit it. The crane electrical design, with a study of advantages this technology offers, is presented.
