摘要

World aviation leaders gathered at the Routes World 2023 conference in Istanbul, Turkey, in mid-October, where network planners and airports held one-on-one meetings while conference speakers discussed industry growth plans and enablers.New air operator's certificates (AOCs), fleet and route expansion, and investments in sustainability initiatives that included both electric- and hydrogen-powered aircraft's potential for short-haul domestic flights were among topics debated.Istanbul-based LCC Pegasus Airlines and Malaysia-based LCC AirAsia are both looking to new AOCs for expansion opportunities.Pegasus Airlines CEO Guliz Ozturk said the LCC was considering AOCs in other countries as it looks to grow from 100 to 170 aircraft over the next five years. She said the carrier was looking for more routes in Europe, the Middle East and especially in the CIS countries. "We want to grow Eastern Europe and include more destinations in our network, both from Istanbul and Antalya," she said, adding that eastern growth would depend on air service agreements or new AOCs.
