摘要

The aims of the present study were to evaluate the frequency of L. serrata infection in Iranian sheep by evidencing nymphs in the mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) and to characterize the induced lesions. Among 136 carcasses of slaughtered sheep directlyinspected, 30.9% of carcasses exhibited I. serrata larvae and mainly nymphs in the MLNs. After fixation in 10% formalin and embedding in paraffin, the infected MLNs were analyzed using conventional histology. Inflammatory lesions (oedema, necrotic areas,mononuclear cell infiltrates coupled to vascularitis) associated to cystic cavities were predominantly observed. Granulomatosis with giant cells and macrophages was also found. These results illustrate the traumatic and irritating actions of the L. serrata larvae and nymphs on the MLNs due to the larva migration in the intermediate host and show that the L. serrata infection is relatively frequent in Iranian sheep.
