摘要

Sustainability as a complex global phenomenon and concept was recognised in 1931 by Professor Franz Heske, who is seen as the founder of World Forestry as an Art, Science and Practice and promoter of the ecosystem concept and organismic-naturalisticapproach in forestry. He and his successors in office and conviction declared essential principles of sustainable social forestry at any level of ecosystem from nature to society to be: recognition of interdisciplinary and intersectoral interdependence and interaction; organismic, (i.e. holistic and ecosystemic) approaches at natural, technical, economic, social and policy levels of assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring in forest management and conservation; integrated and holistic approaches to long-term forestry and regional developments.
