CEPCI Delegation met Shri Kamalnath, Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce &: Industries, GO I In July 2007, the DEPB rate for cashew kernels was enhanced to 3% with effect from. April 2007 with a view to offset the loss due to rupee appreciation. However all of a sudden, this was reduced to 1.5% on 9 October 2007. A delegation under the leadership of Shri P. Bharathan Pillai, Chairman of the Council met Shri Kamalnath, Hon. Minister for Commerce & Industry, Government of India at New Delhi on 13* November 2007 and explained the problems of the industry and requested immediate restoration of 3% DEPB rate of cashew. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Minister and requested to enhance the DEPB rate further to 8% to enable the cashew industry survive the crisis due to high production cost and competition from Vietnam.
