摘要

Success of community forestry should be perceived as relative rather than absolute, because the state of affairs is likely to be judged differently depending on reviewers and their perceptions. Bradshaw argues that while academic researchers may focuson one aspect of success, such as the fulfillment of a pluralistic civic science in the Reed and Mcllveen (2006) article, local communities' concerns are more likely to have broader aims including economic development. Reed and Mcllveen (2006) also recognize that local people's perspective of success is likely different than project managers' and researchers' point of view. We agree with the extensive literatures in the area of common-pool resource management and community forestry that success involves three dimensions: ecological sustainability, social equity, and economic efficiency (Hanna and Munasinghe 1995a; 1995b; Agrawal 2001). Community forestry practitioners will continue to face the difficult choices of how these three components should becompromised to fit the goals of their specific management situations.
