Shri Talwar, explained in detafl the programme objectives and the current scenario with reference to hallmarking ofgold jewellery. He informed that the scheme has achieved a steady progress especially after simplification of the scheme and reduction in the fees. He also highlighted the result of the market survey conducted at various locations in the country during the year 2001 and 2006 and stated that there is a need for improving the quality of the jewellery. He informed that the programme is intended to create necessary awareness among the jewellers about the BIS Hallmarking scheme and its significance to the country and the consumers.
