Hugh A. Krentz, P. Eng. has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his work in engineering. The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, made the announcement on December 30, 2011. As SES member since 2008, Mr. Krentz is the immediate past Chairman of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). In addition to chairing SCC for ten-and-a-half years, Mr. Krentz served as President of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC). He also is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Steel Construction Council, and was Executive Director of the Steel Structures Education Foundation. A Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Mr. Krentz has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to structural engineering and standards development. In 2009, SES awarded Mr. Krentz the Society's most prestigious honor, the Leo B. Moore Award.
