With Brazil hosting the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio, it is an exciting time for Brazilian athletes and sports fans. However, along with the excitement generated by these two important International sporting events, it is inevitable that a range of drugs and doping will be used and misused by athletes to enhance their performance and their appearance and that a range of intervention control policies will be used and misused by a range of stakeholders who enable, facilitate, as well as interfere with athletic sports events and competitions which increasingly, over time, have become both politicized and commodified.
