Oil port opposition: Opposition is mounting in British Columbia to the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project that is planned to deliver raw Alberta tar sands crude bitumen to Kitimat on B.C.'s North Coast for delivery to oil tankers. The United Fishermenand Allied Workers Union submission to the Joint Review Panel on the project said that an Exxon Val-dez-sized spill in the shipping route will persist for longer time periods and result in areas more heavily oiled than in Prince William Sound. The unionsays that an oil spill on B.C.'s North Coast would affect all species of sea life in the area, which is rich in salmon, groundfish, and shellfish resources.
