This work promotes the study of land planarians as indicator taxa in biodiversity and conservation studies. It presents the first results of a biogeographic database containing distributional records of all nominal species of terrestrial planarian. The database enables the identification of 'hotspots' of flatworm species richness on an equal area map of the world and permits rapid analysis of global distribution of various taxa.
