Indonesia's cement industry has faced the most challenging period in its history during the past decade.This followed rapid expansion in production capacity at the height of the economic boom which unexpectedly coincided with the 1997 financial crisis and an immediate slump in domestic cement demand.Although cement consumption has now recovered to pre-crisis levels,the industry is burdened with a large production overcapacity that has only been partially eased by aggressive exporting for the past five years.
