Transgenic corn and soybean varieties that can thrive in arid fields and yield greater profits are encroaching on traditional wheat planting in the Great Plains and Midwest,leading wheat industry leaders to favor developing their own biotech varieties.The Farm Progress Show,held last month near Boone,Iowa,showcased a new drought-tolerant corn variety mat"stood tall and[looked]good in its demonstration plot under a translucent tent that kept rainfall away,"reports Growers For Biotechnology,an organization created to promote and facilitate the research,development and acceptance of biotechnology in agriculture.
