The National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG)and U.S.Wheat Associates renewed their push for a transgenic wheat variety at policy meetings late last month in Washington,D.C.The Joint Biotechnology Committee (JBC),which includes members from both USW and NAWG,recommended two resolutions that won board approval.The first encourages dialogue among U.S.,Australian and Canadian wheat growers regarding development of a timeline for the release and commercialization of biotech wheat.The second asks USW and NAWG to identify trait developers and initiate a dialogue to encourage the research,development and commercialization of a biotech variety.
