All too often experience has shown that hoppers, silos, bins and bunkers are designed on the basis of structural or space economy, or that the outlet of such facilities are sized such that they must mate with a feeder, which has been selected solely on the basis of the required feed rate. While this approach may be acceptable for many free flowing materials, with the less free flowing products that exhibit a certain degree of cohesion, this approach will almost certainly lead to problems in the feed bin which, in turn, may adversely affect an entire plant.
