It is well known that the Enskog factor for the mean free path of the hard sphere gas also quantifies the deviation of the equation of state from that of the ideal gas. We verify this result in a computer simulation by measuring the pressure of the hard sphere gas in the microcanonical ensemble and comparing with mean free paths obtained in all earlier paper. Surprisingly, the pressure is higher than would be expected from the mean free path alone by a factor which depends not only on the size of the container but also on its shape.
