A huge 95% of the universe may still be a mystery, but physicists are making headway I once went to a debate on the future of science journalism, which featured the then editor of The Times James Harding. He described meeting an eminent physicist,who had praised his newspaper's coverage of "matter",but said that it needed to devote more attention to "dark matter". When Harding asked why,the physicist explained how little we know about this mysterious,invisible stuff. But when the physicist then told Harding that The Times needed to do even more on "dark energy",he asked "Yes,but what is it?"To which the physicist replied "Aha!That's the point: nobody knows."
