摘要

For many years, physicists thought that nothing could emerge from a black hole. This was a consequence of Einstein's theory of general relativity: if a sufficiently large star were to run out of fuel and collapse, it would ultimately crush itself to a point of almost infinite density. Even light straying within a certain radius, known as the event horizon, would be sucked in by the immense gravity, never to escape.
