Science minister Lord Sainsbury showed his support for physics and physicists in his speech opening the Institute's new building, adjacent to its present headquarters in Portland Place in May. The opening ceremony, together with the launch of the Institute's new programme for women in physics, formed the centrepiece of a week of celebrations. "Opening Doors on Physics" saw the Institute host a range of talks, receptions, seminars and meetings to bring the excitement and relevance of physics and its applications to a wide range of audiences.
