Simultaneous measurements of Hall effect and magneto resistance in high pulsed fields up to B = 55 T are presented throughout the full temperature range on the high temperature superconductor La2-1/Sr-8(1)/8CuO4 with T, = 17 K. A direct comparison is made between the longitudinal resistivity (p(xx)) and the Hall coefficient (R-H). Both p(xx)(50) (T)(T) and R-H(50) (T) show a distinct extremum around T = 80 K; with lowering temperatures, the field-induced normal state magneto-resistance diverges, the Hall angle increases and R 11 T decreases up to a saturated value of 1.7 x 10(-9) m(3)/C. There is no obvious discontinuity in R-H(50) (T) observed when crossing the superconductingormal phase transition. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
