摘要

The first catalysis studies using the fast ion conductors, transition-metal-exchanged Beta -Aluminas, are reported. Several new and previously reported materials have been prepared and characterized, and their activity for CH4 Oxidation has been investigated. The Mn(II), Fe(II). and Fe(III) isomorphs are very active for deep oxidation between 300 and 700 deg C, and above 700 deg C oxidative coupling is also observed. The Fe system has been further studied by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Both the stoichiometry and the Mossbauer spectroscopy indicate that oxidation of methane involves reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II).
