The objectives of this research effort are to combine knowledge of cloud andatmospheric physics, the physics of detection systems and new microprocessor technology to determine ways to quickly derive information about cloud amounts, location, height, existence of holes and other parameters suitable for characterizing clouds as background. The results presented here have contributed much to the accomplishment of those objectives, and have broken new ground in the general area of satellite cloud analysis. CONTENTS: New Cloud Composite Climatologies Using Meteorological Satellite Imagery; New Cloud Composite Climatologies Using Meteorological Satellite Imagery; High Resolution Space/Time Cloud Climatologies From Satellite Data; Interannual Variability in Cloud Frequency as Determined from GOES Satellite; Persistence Forecasts From High Resolution Cloud Composite Climatologies; and Technique for Cloud Discrimination on GOES Infrared Imagery.
