摘要

An objective of this paper is to reduce over 450 variables on quality of family life, available from the Army Research Institute's Army Families in Europe Survey, 1983, to a small number of factors. Subsequent analysis reveals that five factors are significant in explaining satisfaction with family life. These are (a) an economic security factor, reflected in the payment of extension bonuses; (b) a socioeconomic and demographic factor consisting of age, time in service, rank, and income (which all move in concert over time); (c) a psychological-physical well-being factor factor based on the physical and mental health of servicemembers and their families; (d) a housing satisfaction factor based on the number of bedrooms in housing and the reduction in delays when allocating permanent housing; and (e) a cultural adjustment skills reflecting the ability of servicemembers to cope with German culture by learning the language and other modes of communication.
