摘要

Vibro-acoustic measurements were made for space missions STS-5 and 41B (STS-11). Mission STS-5 measurements were made at distances and orientations mirroring the major structures at Vandenberg AFB (VAFB). Findings were an order of magnitude below AFGL forecasts and NASA offset measurements. A second set of measurements were necessary to explain this anomaly. Mission 41B measurements were made over an arc of 180 degrees on a radius reflecting VAFB's Space Launch Complex Six's (SLC-6) Payload Preparation Room (PPR) - Launch Pad (LP) separation (300 m). From this second set of measurements, it was determined that the Overall Sound Pressure Level's (OASPL) maxima is azimuth sensitive and that spatial coherence of launch surface pressure is degraded between points on the arc. However, coherency is maintained radially, with varying phase and 1/R attenuation. At SLC-6 distances of concern, the source at the time of maximum loading can be represented as a transient point source whose origin is within the rocket plume envelope. This source representation is the basis for AFGL's vibro-acoustic forecasts for the launch environment generated by a VAFB STS launch.
