摘要

Changes in salinities associated with the deepening will result in subtle shifts in habitat, primarily in the oligo- to mesohaline section of the James River. These shifts are quite small and there should be no discernable ecosystem changes according to report. Accompanying maps show effects of salinity changes on distribution of various organisms within the Hampton Roads estuarine system. Keywords: James River, lower Chesapeake Bay, physical model test, environmental impact, habitat loss/gain, hydrodynamic changes, Norfolk Harbor and Channels, deepening, salinity changes, tidal amplitudes, current velocities, estuarine organisms.
