摘要

Adult, male rats (n=16/group) were food deprived for 72h followed by ad lib consumption of a high protein (HIPROT) or high carbohydrate (HICARB) diet for 96th. Each dietary interval was followed immediately by exercise (9.14m/min) in the heat (35.5 C) to hyperthermic exhaustion (Tco-43 C). Animals consuming the HICARB or HIPROT diet had an increased mean Tco prior to the acute heat/exercise protocol when compared with a control (CONT) group with uninterrupted access to a normal rodent diet; the HICARB rats also manifested a decreased endurance when compared with the CONT group. Plasma lactate and potassium levels were generally increased significantly by exercise in the heat. Hematocrit and creatine phosphokinase were unaffected by either the dietary or exercise/heat protocol, but following exercise, mean plasma osmolality was significantly increased in the HIPROT group. Dietary manipulations effected several noteable metabolic responses which apparently did not reduce the physiological cost of work in the heat.
