Optical bistability and its potential for optical signal processing and communications are reviewed. Recent experimental results in semiconductor optical bistability are presented. In particular, optical bistability in GaAs-AlGaAs superlattices and CuCl, ZnS, and ZnSe is discussed. (Author)
