摘要

Neural cell explants were exposed to 14-Mev neutrons. Following incubation,the neural cell cultures were examined for arrested myelination,stained for glycogen deposits and chromatolysis,and elec recorded. Myelination decreased with increasing dose,while glycogen deposits and chromatolysis increased. Electrical activity decreased with increasing dose,and that remaining was altered in pattern. These preliminary results suggest that moderate neutron doses at a high dose rate can inflict considerable direct morphologic and electrophysiologic damage to developing nervous system cells;and 14-Mev neutrons at the range of doses used appear to have about twice the effectiveness of x-rays in producing the same biologic endpoint.
