摘要

A finite-element program was modified and used to analyze the macro- and micro-mechanical behavior of several unidirectional boron-aluminum (6061-T6) composites subject to plane-strain transverse-normal tension in the elastic and plastic ranges of the matrix. Mechanical properties were found to depend on: The reinforcement concentration, the packing arrangement of the circular reinforcements, the direction of the applied transverse-normal stress relative to the packing symmetry, the extent of reinforcement-matrix interface debonding, and the thermal history of the composite. Specially prepared tungsten-aluminum (6061-T6 and -0), unidirectional, square-array composites were tested in transverse-normal tension to verify theoretical predictions.
