A formulation of a cyanosiloxane polymer has been made which meets the performance requirements of MIL-S-81323A,Class A,channel sealant for sealing 15-mil gaps at temperatures up to 350F. Expansion and contraction of channel sealant during cycling was reduced by increasing pigmentation and by using solvent-fractionated polymer. Low-temperature flexibility and adhesion retention was improved by using a silane-treated pigment and replacing the epoxy with a phenolic resin. By changing pigment types and quantities,pH was varied from 4.1to 7.7,and corrosion disappeared. Chromate pigments effectively inhibited corrosion and were incorporated into the formulation.
