摘要

The crystal structure of 2,2'-dibromo-4,4'-bis(p-methoxybenzylideneamino)biphenyl, CH3-O-C6H4-CH=N-C6-H3-Br-C6H3Br-N=CH-C6H4-O-CH3, has been determined by the heavy-atom method. It was refined by three-dimensional least-squares analysis (block-diagonal approximation) to an R of 0.046 for 3688 independent reflections. The molecular axis is nearly parallel to the c axis and neighboring molecules are shifted with respect to each other, such that the middle of one molecular is near the end of its nearest neighbor. The angle between the two rings of the biphenyl segment is 80 deg, yielding a 'herringbone' packing in the plane perpendicular to the molecular axis.
