For the purpose of establishing and expanding scientific contacts with the HKA (International Cartographlo Association), the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR adopted a decree on the organization of the NSK (National Council of Cartographers of the USSR) under the Nat’l anal Committee of Soviet Geographers (as a section of it) and defined its tasks as follows:na) Representation of the cartographers of the USSR in the HKA, at its assemblies, scientific and technical conferences, symposia etc., as well as in other international organizations having to do with cartographlo matters;nh) Maintenance of contacts on cartographlo matters among soviet cartographic organizations, the Executive Committee of the HKA and other international as well as national cartographic associations (committees);nc) Informing Soviet cartographers of the activities of the HKA and of other international and national cartographic associations (committees) for the purpose of familiarizing them with the theoretical, methodologies] and practical work of foreign cartography;nd) Preparation and execution of measures connected with the participation of soviet cartographers in International cartographlo scientific and technical congresses, conferences, symposia, etc.
