The Army Special Warfare Center has requested research to determine, as a means of selecting officers for Special Forces training, what qualities in an officer will enable him to perform his special warfare mission with a high degree of effectiveness. Experimental measures were assembled to provide a broad coverage of personal characteristics hypothesized to be relevant to performance in unconventional warfare missions. As a first step toward selecting content for a selection battery, the tests were administered to a total of 238 officers at the outset of training and analyzed for effectiveness in predicting academic grades, peer ratings, and performance on a field exercise at close of training.
