It is a compound composed of two characters—wei, signifying “danger,” and chi, signifying “opportunity.” There are dangers in our enormous ignorance, and dangers that our necessarily hasty efforts to repair it may produce serious confusion as well as enlightenment. However, there are also significant opportunities for effective action.
