摘要

The purpose of the following work is to present an application of automatic computing techniques to the numerical treatment of observed light curves of eclipsing binary systems (EBS).nThe machine selected is an IBM 1620 general purpose data proces¬sing system. This choice was made partly on the basis of necessity (availability of this machine) and partly for the following reasons. First, the IBM 1620 system is basically a small machine which, in one of its numerous configurations, is currently available at many universities and industrial laboratories. Its great virtue is the fact that it can be operated by an individual investigator. Secondly, the machine is inex¬pensive to operate--a fact which can be of vital importance when costs must be conserved. These two facts are particularly important in ex-ploratory research problems in which results are difficult to anticipate and where it is initially impractical to mechanize completely the compu-tation for a large machine.
