This thesis brings together some results of my investigation into multivariate systems with discrete and continuous variables.nThe motivation to study such mixed variable systems arose first during a research assistantship with Frederick Mosteller on the disputed authorship of the Federalist Papers and, second, during a joint consulting session with W.G. Cochran on the analysis of a clinical trial of psychopharmacological agents. The Federalist problem leads the subject of prediction and discriminatory analysis which the clinical trial concerns with the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). In this thesis we report almost exclusively on our "(development of statistical methodology for the analysis of variance situation.
