摘要

An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the relation between heading relative to an existing swell system and the severity of sea- plane loads and motions developed during landings into various head windsnAnalysis revealed an effective wave length that correlates the maximum impact loads and motions recorded for a model of the XJR2F-1 at all landing speeds and oblique headings to wave systems of different wave lengths, Maximum impacts are found to reach a peak where the effective wave length is twice the hull length, while the largest motions are shown to develop at an effec¬tive wave length of between two and one-half to three times the hull length.nLanding headings selected so that the effective wave length presented to an aircraft is greater than ten times the hull length are found to keep maximum loads within two times the calm water values and maximum motions within three times calm water values.nAn optimum heading is shown to exist for any known swell system and landing velocity such that the loads and motions are equivalent to calm water va1ues.
