摘要

Following the isolation and first growth in continuous culture of trachoma virus in 1957 by Tang and his colleagues in Peking, trachoma viruses have been isolated and grown in a number of laboratories throughout the world. The isolation and serial growth of trachoma virus in the yolk sac of the embryonated egg provided the opportunity for the development of experimental trachoma vaccines. These vaccines have been studied extensively in animals and have been shown to stimulate the production of a complement fixation (CF) antibody. They have not caused any deleterious effect on the animals. Prior to testing these vaccines for their ability to prevent natural trachoma infections in children, it was desirable to undertake in humans an investigation of the antibody response to different dosages. The results of such a study are reported in this paper.
