摘要

The present Note deals with the slowing-down of a pump set after the supply to the prime mover has been cut off, and covers mainly the changes until the flow drops to zero. An outline of the accurate procedure is given and a practical case is evaluated in full in Appendix 1. The advantages of approximate methods are discussed, and a number of charts are presented which reduce very considerably the work involved in constructing the full surge diagram. They include a nomogram indicating whether column separation will occur and giving the speed during slowing down;a set of charts for the first period 2L/a of the shut-down process;and a number of construction charts for the remainder of the surge diagram. The mathematical bases of these charts is outlined in Appendices 2 and 3.
