摘要

In support of the Department of Defense (DoD) Scientific and Technical Information Program, the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) sponsored an annual Student Paper Competition for students in graduate programs in library and information science. The purpose of the competition was to promote the generation of new research in areas of strategic importance to DTIC and to promote an understanding of DTIC's mission and program among information professionals. Papers were evaluated based upon their relevance to DTIC's mission, potential interest to DTIC's customers, originality, clarity, and sufficiency of support for conclusions. Authors of the best submissions were invited to present their papers at the DTIC Annual Conference, which was held on March 22-24, 2010, in Alexandria, Virginia. This year, a number of wonderful papers were submitted, and three of these papers were selected for presentation at the DTIC Annual Conference. The winning papers are included in this compilation. The titles and authors of the papers are as follows: 'Being There is Only the Beginning: Toward More Effective Web 2.0 Use in Academic Libraries, ' by Hanna C. Bachrach, Pratt Institute, School of Information and Library Science; 'Intelligence after Intellipedia: Improving the Push Pull Balance with a Social Networking Utility,' by Ariane Ben Eli and Jeremy Hutchins, Pratt Institute, School of Information and Library Science; and 'Information Needs and Behaviors -- NASA Science Program Executives,' by Shannon Lantzy, University of Maryland, College of Information Studies.
