摘要

Developing culturally neutral products may not only reduce the cost of production but also enhance the share in current emerging international market. In this study, 266 Malaysian operators from various industrial sites in Malaysia were recruited to answer a computerized questionnaire regarding their perceptions of colors, shapes and orientations commonly found on the operator interface displays for Distributed Control System (DCS). The analyzed data was compared with the previous findings from Singapore and China. There exists great consistency in the perceptions of these three different culture groups. On the basis of cultural similarities found in the three studies, we elicit general design guidelines that may be applied in internationalizing operator interface displays.
